Our History
A passion for plants led Russell Downes to establish his very own Nursery. In 1984, Russell successfully opened Downes Wholesale Nursery, a 10-acre plant nursery originally located in Rossmore. Soon, and with the addition of Russell’s two sons joining the business, Downes Wholesale Nursery quickly outgrew its original location and moved to a 145-acre property in Theresa Park.
For nearly 40 years, this Family Business has flourished, providing the landscaping and development industry with a large selection of quality plants and trees. With the 3rd Generation of Downes family members now joining the business, Downes Wholesale Nursery has become one of the largest market leaders in the industry.
Today, Downes Wholesale Nursery employs over 80 staff and spans two locations, with a combined area of 225 acres of plants. No matter which location you visit, you will be greeted by our friendly staff who are always here to help you get your next project underway.

We provide a large variety of sun-hardy Australian native plants and exotic trees, shrubs, groundcovers and perennials from semi advanced through to super-advanced and semi-mature stock.
Specialising in large quantity orders, we have room to accommodate both specialist growing and advanced orders for your landscaping needs. This means we can raise your plants several months before you are ready to plant.

Theresa Park
Our head office is located at Theresa Park in Sydney West, the 145-acre property can hold over 1 Million plants from Tubestock to 400lt enough to cover all your projects of any size.
Featuring an impressive propagation facility, 4 Acre shade house and tree racks with thousands of 75lt and larger plants.
Northern Rivers
Our beautiful Northern Rivers nursery is located at Tuckombil near Byron Bay, it grows a lot of our tropical plants and supplies the local area as well as a semi-trailer of plants to Theresa Park every week.
