Viburnum odoratissimum is a fast growing, medium to large dense shrub that grows up to 4 metres tall with distinctly large leathery oval green leaves. This luscious plant produces small white flowers releasing a beautiful fragrance in the warmer seasons which is where the name Sweet Viburnum comes from, whilst in Autumn the plant produces red berries.
Viburnum odoratissimum makes a great hedge?
Due to the fast growth and lush foliage of this species, Viburnum odoratissimum is ideally used as a hedge/screening plant in with full sun to part shade. It is best to prune to the preferred shape, twice a year.
It will grow in a wide range of soils ranging from sandy to clays but is best suited to a deep and rich soil. When the plant is fully established, it will tolerate light frost and requires regular watering during the warmer seasons as it will tolerate dry soil but prefers moist soil. This plant rarely attracts pests or diseases.
What should I feed my Viburnum odoratissimum?
With regular watering during the warmer seasons, it is also beneficial to fertilise your plant in Spring with a slow release fertiliser in a mulched garden.
