May 2007Plant profile, Tristania laurina luscious PBR, Luscious is the new denser improved form of Tristaniopsis laurina. The Luscious features larger, shinier leaves almost double the size of the common Tristaniopsis laurina. The foliage is a gorgeous lush, dark green with a shiny appearance, topped off with a distinctive copper coloured new growth. The dense form makes Luscious highly desirable for use in many landscapes.

November 2006 : We are proud to announce Downes Wholesale Nursery are now distributor of the Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis). The Wollemi™ Pine is one of the world's oldest and rarest plants dating back to the time of the dinosaurs, With less than 100 adult trees known to exist in the wild, the Wollemi™ Pine is now the focus of extensive research to safeguard its survival.

June 2006 : Rain Bird Irrigation Supplement is water bound in the form of a solid gel. It is an ideal irrigation supplement used in establishing native and exotic plant material, where permanent irrigation is not required as well as new plant material in existing landscape areas. Rain Bird IS increases the survival rate of transplants by providing continuous moisture needed to reduce the stress of relocation.

January 2006 : After 20 months of planning and construction, we are pleased to announce that Downes Wholesale Nursery at Theresa Park is open. Our 'super' nursery is 145 Acres and has the capacity to hold several million plants. From the onset of this project our goal has been to create a nursery that will act as a benchmark for others to follow. We now have around 600,000 plants on the ground.

November 2005 : Theresa Park update: Things are moving rapidly now, the tens of thousands of plants have grown to hundreds of thousands in the last month, trading for our new site will begin shortly as plants are thriving with the added heat and rain we have been experiencing. We now have over 1,000 Eucalyptus in 45lt, 75lt and 100lt as well as hundreds of beautiful deciduous trees in 200lt containers to name a few.

October 2005: We are excited to say the first plants are on the ground and starting to grow. This is the beginning of the realisation of our dream to build on of the finest nurseries in Australia. Using best practices in all aspects of this development, we are setting a benchmark. Downes Wholesale Nursery were proud supply Above the Earth Landscapes with plants for their award winning stand at this years Sydney in Bloom festival. Olaf & Rod took home the "Best Design Award" for their innovative and exciting stand.

September 2005: Over 3km of 200mm and 150mm PVC main line has been laid for our irrigation system, and our pump station is ready to be commissioned in the next few days. To control our massive pump station, which has a flow rate of 40 litres per second at a pressure of 800kpa, read about the climate controls for our irrigation.

August 2005: A 40m long, state-of-the-art, greenhouse for propagation has been installed, fitted with stirring fans, Svensson thermal screens, vents, high pressure fogging and bench heating all tied together by a single controller that can monitor temperature, humidity and light levels. Adjustments can be made where necessary to keep the environment where it is required.

July 2005: Installation has begun on our computer controlled irrigation system by Rain Bird, their site control irrigation system is a giant leap in irrigation technology. Read about the advantages of Rain Bird’s LF1200 sprinklers and our water recycling program.

June 2005: Construction continues on our new nursery, we now have our 4 acre shade house in place and over 90,000 cubic metres of soil has been moved to catch runoff water and create a wetland to recycle our irrigation water. Read about our huge VFD pump station.

May 2005 :Construction Begins on our new 145 acre super nursery at Theresa Park. Due to open late 2005 the site has capacity for over 3 million plants.
